The unconference was an opportunity to meet library and information students and professionals and share experiences and tips on prepping for and finding jobs, internships, and mentorships. In the small casual unconference setting, everyone had opportunities to share their own ideas and experiences, as well as explore some questions or challenges they have faced when seeking employment.
A few things I'm leaving with: have business cards, prepare goals with a mentor as a means to enhance a resume, set out to learn a particular set of skills in each position you hold, attend conferences and other lib events, have your internship defined so that important buzzwords or tasks are not left out of your CV or resume, and stand out in a room of many (Clothing? Cards? Specialization?).
This event was free. There was pizza. A good time was had.
In the future, I will more actively search for similar opportunities to meet people within the field of library and information science. Thanks to Young Lee, the presenters, and the CLA Student Interest Group for a great event!
